Lunch

If your child forgets their lunch, we ask that you try to drop it off before their scheduled lunch time. Late arriving lunches can be left on the lunch cart in the vestibule. Paper, pens, and tape are located on the cart so you can easily label your child's lunch.

District 109 adopted a progressive allergy plan in 2014 that keeps our students with allergies safe and promotes healthy eating habits. You can view our full allergy plan below. To the right is an excerpt on our classroom policy.

109's Snack Policy

Elementary School

Elementary School

Teachers determine if/what snacks are allowed during class. If allowed, students may bring fruits, vegetables, cheese, and yogurt. Dried fruits and applesauce are also allowed. No additions, toppings, or mix-ins like dips/spreads, granola, or cookie crumbles are allowed. If beverages are allowed, only water is approved.

Recess

When would recess be inside?

Generally, recess & morning lineup will be moved indoors if:

  • The temperature is 14 degrees or below (with windchill)
  • It is raining
  • Severe weather is present

As the temperatures continue to drop in the winter months, we ask our students to dress properly with hats, gloves, boots, snowpants, etc, as needed. Additionally, students are required to wear gym shoes for physical education class, so please keep a spare pair in your child’s locker. For very wet weather, you may want to have a spare pair of jeans and socks in the locker so your child can change into dry clothes if needed. Students are allowed to leave gym shoes, snow pants, etc. at school.
